Golf

For those new to the club, we have a golf section that caters for all abilities. Games are played once a month followed by a social BBQ or meal.

While 2020 threw up some challenges from a scheduling perspective we did manage to get games in at Barooga, Lancefield, Heathcote, Axedale and our Christmas “3 club game” at Mt Macedon.

For 2021 you can view the schedule of games below. Hopefully we can play all these courses this year. The highlights are usually our three trips away to Cobram Barooga, Numurkah and Shepparton, so don’t miss out.

The main highlight of the 2020 season was the Annual Cobram Barooga Social Golf weekend. Good weather and great company made for an enjoyable time.

Kristen at the El Sierra Motel once again made us feel at home, and as usual the Cobram Barooga Golf Club put on great meals on the Friday evening and Saturday lunch. Their hospitality and friendly staff are to be commended.

Overall and men’s winner on the Saturday was Rodney Lupson with a Nett 75. Runner up was Dave Park with a Nett 85.

The ladies winner was June Bowles with a Nett 82, while Trudy Law was the runner up with a Nett 83.

Rodney also won the putting with 31 putts from Dave Park who had 32.

As normally happens, we named our Club Champion for the previous year (2019). The honours went to Brian Wood with 75 points. Brian was a clear winner from Whitney (63 points) and Dave Park (47 points). Well done Brian on another consistent year.

Thanks also to Chef Dave who, once again, did the eye fillet justice at the Saturday night BBQ.

Due to the small number of games played in 2020, we will not be awarding a club champion prize, but look out for all those bandits playing this year.

New players of all abilities are always welcome. If you have a “Golf Link” handicap we can use that or we can just make one up. The handicapper looks after all new players. So come along and enjoy a social game, a few quiet beverages afterwards and participate in the banter. The emphasis is on socialising more so than the golf.

Game details will be placed on notice board two weeks prior to game. If you intend to play, please ensure you put your name on the list or text Whitney to allow for catering. The games involving overnight stays require a little more notice.

And remember, “A bad day on the golf course is always better than a good day at work!”
